Seniors Reaching Out Through the Performing Arts

NEVER TOO LATE 2008 – directed by Stuart Kandell. This year’s all new musical review features old time radio show favorites: songs, skits, commercials and much more. The troupe of seniors, accompanied by Scrumbly Koldewyn on the piano, entertains with a wink and a nod to memory lane and to the good times that create memories. Add this special event to your calendar of activities; honor your volunteers, or “let us entertain you” just for fun! (Time: 20-60 minutes – material adapted to complement event theme)

MUSIC, SONGS & FUN

THE DREAMERS Delight to this popular vocal trio's harmonies and witty asides. Music from the 1930s-1960s with Scrumbly at the piano and vocalists Cindy Carrico and Linda Wilson. Performing at senior centers, luncheons, special events, national and local conferences and private parties. (Time: 30-45 minutes – shorter to fit event programs – call for details.)

LIVE JAZZ Keep time with well-known jazz group The Jazz Unit. Cool and smooth or hot and sultry, you name the style and they will take you there. Fine featured entertainment for any event including cocktail hour, open house, senior center parties, or anytime music for pure enjoyment. (Time: 30-60 minutes. Priced from solo to quintet with singer.)

IMPROVISATION with the "Antic Witties"
Are you an Antiques Road Show fan? It will never look the same after the Antic Witties take you for a fun, spirited, improvised adventure through the prime time show.  Taking the familiar and turning it on end is only the beginning with Stagebridge's premiere Improv Troupe directed by Josiah Polhemus with Daniel Savio on piano and featuring the talented, quick witted, Stagebridge actors. (Time: 30-60 minutes – material can be theme/event specific & combined with workshops – call for details.)

STORYTELLING
Senior storytellers captivate audiences with witty, charming, personal and fictional stories, based in the oral tradition of world wisdom. Tellers invite the audience to relax, listen, enjoy and share in the exciting tales as they are revealed.  (Time: 30-60 minutes as entertainment, class or workshop)

CIVIL RIGHTS TALES (Seasonal)
Hosted by Marijo, premiere storyteller, performer and teacher. A moving collection of stories and songs shared by the people who lived them are “eloquent” (Susan Stone, KPFA). Stagebridge storytellers are the “living history” of civil rights and a legacy for future generations. The program engages all ages and cultures throughout the year.

ART OF STORYTELLING
Instructor:Liz Nichols, Storytelling Director – Learn to develop a personal or fictional story with our Storytelling Director. Classes are fun, creative and geared to help you develop your storytelling skills in a friendly environment. Liz has been featured on radio and television and is a member of the San Francisco Asian Art Museum Storytelling Corps.

 

IMPROVISATION
Improv is a great way to stimulate mind, memory and motion for seniors. Stagebridge staff and seniors demonstrate and lead a fun, spirit-lifting improvisation workshop. The laughter is infectious, the situations familiar, and anyone can join in the skits amusing everyone with their inventive, imaginative contributions. The high energy, spontaneous environment will entertain and enliven any group.

 

“FIND YOUR VOICE” SINGING CLASS
Instructor: Scrumbly Koldewyn – For non-singers and singers who want to broaden their singing experience and improve vocal skills. The class features vocal technique, group development and individual attention. Scrumbly, Stagebridge’s musical director, is a popular and well known pianist, singer and teacher who has toured internationally with the Jesters and Cockettes. He has been musical director for Bay Area theatres including Berkeley Repertory Theatre and 42nd Street Moon.

 

PLAYREADING WORKSHOP
Have fun getting to know famous and infamous characters and what makes them come to life on stage. Learn how a play evolves from script to stage by getting inside the characters, the setting and the magic of theatrical production. The group chooses the plays: popular, historical, comedy and tragedy, old and new.  Field trips to current Bay Area productions we read and discuss in the workshop is always an option!

 

PLAYWRITING
Instructor: Josiah Polhemus, Theatre/Drama Director – Learn the techniques of writing for the stage: plot, character development, language, structure and staging. Create a new piece or bring one you are working on. Josiah is a noted writer/director/producer and award winning stage and screen actor. He has taught theatre arts classes at colleges and community organizations and has written and produced plays.
