Seniors Reaching Out (SRO)

As the long-standing service arm of Stagebridge, Seniors Reaching Out (SRO) provides workshops, performances and social engagement events for seniors and elders across the San Francisco Bay Area.

Previously, SRO created performing arts events for elders facing mobility or transportation issues. Our instructors and artists were able to create inspired opportunities to introduce music, movement, storytelling and more to aspiring lifelong learners.

Moving forward, this program will continue to craft chances for seniors to begin learning how to be performing artists and entertain multiple communities. However, SRO will focus on providing these necessary and life-changing creative events to underserved local communities.

With this, the SRO will provide a) artistic and healing workshops led by talented local instructors, b) diverse performances from Stagebridge students and community members, and c) special events that invite elders into new social groups and artistic sharing spaces.

Mission

To provide socially-engaging, accessible art experiences that stimulate and inspire the mind, body, spirit while inspiring a new sense of belonging for elders. (June 2022)

ABOUT

Our staff and board members recognize the importance of creating accessible opportunities to underrepresented peoples and communities. Through institutional partnerships with senior living centers, community organizations and fellow artistic healing groups, SRO offers spaces for seniors to heal and to explore art in new and engaging ways. For example, our updated roster of instructors will provide movement, dance and interactive art workshops for elders seeking fun and restorative spaces to explore. Our workshops will be pulled from our PAI classes and instructors as well as partnering with local healing and teaching artists to share specialized workshops.

For current students, SRO will offer the chance to become active community service members and working artists. Also, Stagebridgers will give back to their communities by sharing the creative lessons learned in our Performing Arts Institute. Storytellers, singers, comedians and more will inspire lifelong learners through beautiful, informative, and stimulating performances. These performances are co-produced with local community or arts organizations or offered to senior living centers.

From partnerships with local businesses and creative non-profit organizations, this program also hosts social events to invite people to explore performing arts with students and community members. Through this, students will see the return of our longstanding Lunchtime Storytelling program. In rotating locations across the area, Stagebridgers will be able to invite prospective students into communal art shares and small performances—showcasing storytelling, music, dance and more.

The SRO program unlocks the creativity, memories, and mobility of elders through performances and building relationships through engaging programming. The program will begin offering opportunities in Fall 2022 with a larger re-launch in 2023.
